Rain, rain, go away, please come back… well only when I’m not driving. Most people hate the rain. I love it! But it can cause delays when trying commute. A 10-minute drive could end up an hour drive due to rough driving conditions and other factors such other inexperienced drivers, unexpected power outages, etc. Here are some tips on driving through the rain.
- Step on the brakes earlier and with less force- this is to avoid any surprises from the driver in front of you
- Be extra careful for long dry spells of rain- The first 10 minutes of rainfall on a usually dry road is more likely to have oil slicks making driving very dangerous if not careful. Be sure to give yourself plenty of distance and drive slower than normal (sorry drivers behind me)
- Avoid puddles if you can! these puddles are deceiving and you should be driving into a trap. If you have to drive through the puddle and have no way around it, do it with caution and once you make it out of the puddle, be sure to tap your brake pedals lightly. This will help get rid of any water that was on your rotors.
Be careful out there and if you aren’t comfortable with your brakes and need a check up, take your vehicle into MR Master Mechanics at 5820 Autoport Mall, San Diego, CA 92121.
